Metacognition

These are the slides and videos that we saw during the class:

How to promote Metacognition?

In order to promote metacognition in your students you as a teacher have to:

Explain all the objectives of your lesson at the beginning of the class.
Activate their background knowledge.
Tell students to pay attention to task's explanations.
Provide students a moment in order to attach self-questioning related to what content students have learnt in the class

Ask the students if the objectives of the class have been achieved.

Self-evaluation
You use self-evaluation in order to recognize students' performance and what they need to improve.

Automaticity and Cognitive Load

What is automaticity?

Is the ability to do something without thinking in the process needed or required to develop. You do it unconsciously.

How we develop automaticity?
We develop automaticity by learning, repetition and practice.

Create an example of how teachers can change the amount of "extraneous cognitive load" on an assignment?
Be clear in what you are teaching, try to avoid this extraneous cognitive load as you are the teacher try to use one way to teach something, I mean, if you are going to teach shapes try to use the visual element, make children able to touch things and provide them with a clear definition of what is a triangle,a circle, etc.

When have you felt that you had a full cognitive load?

In my personal view I have lots of things to do in my daily routine. Too much to read, too much to learn, too many things to do as a mother, as a worker and as a student means a very busy life and routine. Sometimes I feel quite full of cognitive load every day, when there are lots of things to do in classes and I couldn't get the instructions, or when I couldn't understand anything in particular or even when I couldn't reach the main objectives of an activity.
